2009 International Week

This year, instead of the traditional International Day, we had a week long celebration. The week was not only for international students, but it was also to show the special qualities of all the different cultures we have

at Glendowie College.

During international week a variety of international groups made and sold the food from their homelands. Especially popular were the hangi, sushi and green tea ice-cream from Japan. The pain au chocolat from France,

the German cakes and the pizza were well received also.

International week was also an opportunity for students to share their languages with others. As it was combined with International Languages Week, there were language badges for teachers and students who speak a second language, and in assembly students who had been on exchange overseas spoke about their experiences.

There were also some spectacular performances during International Week. These performances showcased the different cultures. Students spent a lot of time practising, choosing and editing the music, creating the story and finding costumes. Large audiences watched the Chinese drama, Irish dance, Indian dance and Broadway dance groups perform in the hall at lunchtimes.
