Contacting the School
If you wish to contact the school regarding a concern with your child’s education a list of relevant staff with their responsibilities are listed below.
Subject related matters may be referred to either the Dean or the relevant subject Faculty Leader.
The Year Level Dean has a pastoral and student management role as well as one of supporting student learning at the Year Level. The Year Level Dean advises parents and students; will communicate with parents and may also make referrals to other college personal.
As all our teaching staff have classes it may be up to 24 hours before the staff member can reply.

Ms
Neilson’s primary focus is to provide counselling for students and parents of
the school community. She is a trained Secondary School teacher and now
Counsellor and is a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors
bound by a Code of Ethics. The times when she will break confidentiality is
when a student is unsafe or is suicidal. 95% of students self refer. Other
referrals come from deans, members of staff and parents who have concerns. Any parent who wants to contact Ms Neilson regarding their son or daughter
may feel free to do so. |

Mrs Masters has overall responsibility for the Advanced Learning Programme to ensure the Gifted and Talented (GATE) requirements are met. |

The college provides learning support for identified students. Ms Barlow coordinates this support and directs the work of Teacher Aide assistance in the classroom. Students receiving such support are identified using the MoE and NZQA criteria. Supporting Ms Barlow is a team of teacher aides who provide classroom assistance for identified students and also provide special assessment conditions assistance for approved students undertaking NCEA. |

The role of School Nurse is the assessment and treatment of illness and injuries. She refers students to other Health Practitioners e.g. Doctors, Dentists and Physiotherapists if necessary. Lost and Found Property is also processed in the Medical Room. Please contact her if your child requires treatment or medication during the school day (8.45am-3.15pm). |

Mr Crummer and Miss Stenberg work together in the Sports Office to help deliver co-curricular sport in the college. If your child is playing sport for any college team then this is organised and co-ordinated through the Sports Office. The college is always interested in parental involvement as sports coaches and managers. If you can assist please contact Mr Crummer or Miss Stenberg. |

Mrs Huka in her role as Attendance Officer processes all the absences for the college. If your child is absent from school she is the person to contact. In cases where no communication is received from home Mrs Huka sends out an email or text message to inform parents of unexplained absence. |

Process for Communicating Concerns:
If the problem relates to a specific subject then the first person to make contact with will be the Faculty Leader preferably using the email address, alternatively, telephone the college and select the appropriate Learning Area extension. The Faculty Leader will discuss the concern with the classroom teacher.
For concerns that relate to other academic and/or pastoral matters, contact the Dean responsible for the appropriate Year Level. If the Dean considers the matter is of a more serious nature, it will be referred to a Senior Leader to assist.

Should your concern remain unresolved, the complaint can then be put in writing to the Principal.
When a matter concerns school policy or is of a governance nature, the complaint can be put in writing to the Chairperson, Board of Trustees at the college or by email to bot@glendowie-college.school.nz
