Underwater Hockey
Congratulations to our senior underwater hockey teams that played in the finals of the Auckland Secondary Schools Competition. In the Senior Open Boys A grade, gold medallists were Glendowie A, with Glendowie B being the silver medallists. The Senior Open A team also won the Auckland Swimfin Trophy and Glendowie College won the Auckland Senior Open Trophy with both the gold and silver medal winning teams. In the Senior Girls division, Glendowie took out the silver medal in a very tight, but disappointing loss to Diocesan A.
The college’s four underwater hockey teams headed down to the NZSS Nationals in Christchurch during tournament week. The Senior Open Boys team for the second year running won the national title. Richard Hoksbergen was named ‘top boy player’ at the Nationals. The Senior Girls team finished 9th out of the 17 teams that competed. The Junior Boys, with a small but very determined team, finished in 5th place and the Junior Girls team, who came 2nd in the Auckland competition, finished 6th at the National Championships.
