Computer Science and Programming - Course Information

Topics covered in this course:

  • Basic computer science concepts
  • Use planning tools to guide the development of a computer program
  • Algorithms, Problem Solving, and Flowcharting
  • Production of simple schematic diagrams using a computer application
  • Create and use simple command sequences in a computer language
  • Construct a computer program for a specified task
  • Create a computer program to provide a solution
  • Create a simple graphical user interface for a computer application
  • Develop a technological outcome to address a given brief

Computer Science and Programming - Assessment
  • Formative exercises and tasks are to be completed during the coverage of the topics.
  • Each unit of study includes a combination of defining, planning, designing and developing an outcome. Some standards include a theory-based assessment as well as a practical component. Unit Standard assessments require 100% mastery for credit to be awarded. Re-submissions are permitted only if the student achieves 50% or higher mastery on the initial assessment.
*All re-submission opportunities occur outside of regular class time.
