Year 10:
Machine skills and competency
Use of commercial patterns and garment constructions
Designing logo for casual wear
Recycling project – wearable art
Applying Fabric decoration on t-shirt or similar.
Fibre studies and care labelling
Felt making projects

Year 11:
Fashion design sketching
Machine skills and Competency
Use of Commercial patterns and garment constructions
Fibre studies and care labelling
Technology project
Design Brief and specifications
Consider the range of options, propose and test ideas to select a solution.
Project management, applying resources efficiently.
Review the chosen outcomes, debating their decisions in relation to the specifications

Year 12:
Pattern drafting –basic skirt and trouser block, pattern adaptations
Garment assembly (Industry method)
Fashion sketching
Sample work on construction techniques
Design and make garments
History of costumes – Prehistoric and ancient Egypt
Study a designer
The Fashion Industry – Types and designing a collection.
Fibre studies and fabric constructions
Common fabric types and their suitability to garment design and their sewing requirements.

Year 13:

In-depth study of a designer
Nature of Clothing & Fashion.-Why and who change fashion, fashion cycles, classics and fads
Resourceful use of material –applied design, recycling
Formal garment construction and evaluations
Fashion drawing
Design and make a textile item for a specific purpose e.g. a quilt.
Pattern drafting- draft basic block for the top bodice including fitting , pattern adaptations
Design & make outfits for various competitions e.g., Recycling revolutions, Young Designer fashion award, Trash to - Fashion


Food Technology - Assessment 

Year 9:
Core, there is one assessment of a written brief with no tests.

Year 10:
There are six assessments of written briefs throughout the year and a final end of year exam

Year 11
  • Practical exams and written assessments as per achievement standards
  • Technological project is internally assessed.
  • Technological knowledge externally assessed at end of year.
  • A 45 minute external written exam at the end of the year.

    HE AS 1.5 Analyse Nutritional Information and the effects of advertising on food choices
    Technology AS 1.1 Develop a technological solution to address a given brief.
    Technology AS 1.5 Demonstrate understanding of technological knowledge
    Technology AS 1.6 Present a technological solution that addresses the requirements of a brief.
