Electronics - Course Information

Year 9:
This one term module is designed for students to attain basic understanding of the principals of electronics. Topics covered are atomic structure, ohms law, transistors and electronic circuitry (series and parallel circuits). Using the knowledge attained from the classroom teaching and through undertaking research students will the design and model a burglar alarm using a basic electronic circuit.

Year 11:
This course is developed based on the new New Zealand Technology curriculum. It provides students with a sound base of technological knowledge, processes and practice in Electronics. It also provides for the study and design of control, communication and computing devices that rely on electricity in circuits containing different electronic components.

This course contains a practical component and involves:

  • research in identifying a problem
  • finding stakeholders
  • writing a brief and specifications
  • producing own concepts
  • developing the design
  • ongoing analysis and development
  • Electronics - Assessment

    The students design and make their projects for assessment as per the criteria given in the achievement/unit standard.
