Career Pathways - Course Information

This is a pre-apprenticeship course, run in partnership with Manukau Institute of Technology.  The emphasis of this course is to teach students basic woodworking skills using hand tools.  Students gain Unit Standard credits through producing a range of practical work, completing theory workbooks, and passing end of unit tests.

This year the projects are:

  • Wooden folder
  • Candlestick
  • Picture frame
  • Teapot stand
  • Hinged wooden box
  • Dovetailed tray
  • Students are also taught basic graphic communication skills, both freehand and instrumental.  This gives students an understanding of the various drawing styles used in the building and engineering industries.
