History - Assessment

Year 11:
All standards are worth 4 credits for a total of 24 credits.

Internally Assessed Standards:

  • 1.1 Carry out an historical investigation
  • 1.2 Communicate historical ideas

Externally Assessed Standards:

  • 1.3 Interpret historical sources
  • 1.4 Examine the perspectives of people in an historical setting
  • 1.5 Describe an historical development in an essay
  • 1.6 Describe experiences that led to the shaping of New Zealand identity
 

Year 12:
All standards are worth 4 credits for a total of 24 credits.

Internally Assessed Standards:

  • 2.1 Carry out an historical investigation
  • 2.2 Communicate historical ideas
  • 2.4 Examine the perspectives of people in an historical setting
Externally Assessed Standards:
  • 2.3 Examine evidence in historical sources
  • 2.5 Examine how a force or movement influenced people’s lives, in an essay
  • 2.6 Examine individual or group identity in an historical setting, in an essay
 

Year 13:
3.1 is worth 4 credits, the remainder of the standards are worth 5 credits each, for a total of 24 credits.

Internally Assessed Standards:

  • 3.1 Plan and carry out independent historical research
  • 3.2 Communicate and present historical ideas
Externally Assessed Standards:
  • 3.3 Analyse and evaluate evidence in historical sources
  • 3.4 Examine a significant decision made by people in history, in an essay
  • 3.5 Examine a significant historical situation in the context of change in an essay

 

It is the policy of the History department to offer re-sit opportunities for ALL internal assessments at ALL levels. There will be two practice exams during the year and students will be expected to complete several essays in addition to their internal assessment work.

 

History - Events

Year 11:
Glendowie College enters one or two teams into the annual AHTA (Auckland History Teachers Association) Year 11 History Quiz.

Year 12:
Although there are no planned events or trips at Year 12 it is likely that students will visit special displays at the museum or art gallery.

Year 13:
As part of the internal research assessment, Year 13 students take a three day tour of Northland where they visit historical sites related to the early contact period between Maori and Pakeha. A one day tour of Waikato War sites is also possible.
