ENTERPRISE STUDIES

YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCHEME

The Young enterprise scheme is an experienced business programme developed by the Enterprise New Zealand Trust. At Glendowie College, we offer the Young Enterprise programme for year 12 Economics students as a co-curricular activity.

This year we have one team registered for this scheme and it involves working through the process of setting up and running a real business. Students invest real money, produce real products, pay real taxes and keep the real profits.

During the course of the year the young enterprise team will

  • Form a Young Enterprise company, which is registered with the Enterprise NZ trust
  • Form a team comprising of a board of directors, middle managers and staff
  • Be trained in all aspects of running a business
  • Prepare a prospectus and sell shares in the company to friends, family members, and supporters
  • Prepare a business plan
  • Decide on a product or service to actually provide to the public
  • Undertake market research regarding the product or service
  • Investigate the best method of producing the product or service
  • Arrange for the product to be produced in-house or by an outside producer
  • Prepare and implement a marketing plan – including a product launch
  • Sell the product or service
  • Run meetings and organize staff
  • Maintain full record of activities - written minutes, financial records
