Year 9 Careers Education - (Careers Module taught as part of Yr 9 Social Studies programme)

OPPORTUNITY AWARENESS What further education and training opportunities are available to school leavers?
Year 10 Careers Education (Careers Awareness Module provided by Manukau Institute of Technology)
CAREER INTERESTS Finding my career focus based on my interests, skills, personal qualifies and values
CAREER INFLUENCES Internal / external influences on my career pathway
CAREER GOALS Setting career goals
CAREER RESEARCH Researching career options within identified interest areas
Year 11 Careers Education (Module taught as part of Yr 11 Lifeskills)
CAREER PLANNING Producing a plan for own future direction
Year 13 Careers Education (Modules taught as part of Yr 13 Planning Your Future)

Careers Education - Assessment

Years 9 and 10 students are not formally assessed in these career education programmes. However they are expected to complete a workbook/portfolio during the careers module.

The senior careers education programme modules are assessed against NQF Unit Standards.


Careers Education - Events
  • Year 10 students to Manukau Institute of Technology for careers awareness programme
  • Junior and Senior Maori and Pasifika Careers Days organised by the Careers Service
  • Yr 10 Pasifika Fono (September) organised by Auckland’s Tertiary providers
  • Glendowie College Careers Expo (September)
In addition, senior students have the opportunity to attend
  • Tertiary Provider Open Days
  • Presentations (at the college) by Liaison staff of Tertiary Providers
  • ‘Student for a day’ visits to tertiary institutes
  • Work exploration visits to business organisations
